I met the illustrious David Coles at an exhibition he had devised on the history of colour pigments. The weird, wonderful and utterly fascinating anecdotes that accompanied the colour samples caught my attention, and I envisioned the exhibit could form the basis of a stunning book. With more stories to tell from ultramarine to cochineal, Chromatopia: An Illustrated History of Colour was born.
